Things you you might not know about Aspinwall!
- Aspinwall was incorporated in 1892
The idea of a residential community along the Allegheny River was conceived in the mid-1880s by Henry Warner, then Superintendent of the Allegheny County Workhouse.
- To this end, Henry Warner traveled to New York City, met with Mrs. George (Annie) Aspinwall, and bought from her 155 acres along the bank of the Allegheny River.
The Aspinwall Land Company was formed in 1890, with Henry Warner as its first president.
- Wanting to live in a rural community, away from the dirt, noise and confusion of the city, several of Pittsburgh’s upper middle class residents purchased some of the 60 lots available for home sites; and, by 1890, the small pastoral town boasted about 400 residents.
